The unofficial first night. The Riverside Collective play the pre-opening on the BBQ Plaza Stage, the evening before everything else begins — a warm, loud, sing-along set of folk-rock songs about rivers, trains and people who left town and came back.
Thursday is for the neighbourhood, the volunteers and everyone who builds the festival: grills are already running, the beer garden is open and the plaza is small enough that you will end up talking to the person next to you. Free entry, no ticket needed.
